Government to make it easier for timber industry to export

The Ministry of Economic Development is working on new measures to support the timber industry to minimize the consequences of sanctions pressure. The work is carried out jointly with the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and industry departments.

  • To simplify the export of timber products through the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), a draft resolution of the Government of the Russian Federation on the procedure for moving timber through checkpoints on the borders with the EAEU member states has been prepared. The document takes into account the need to regulate the transit of Russian timber through the territories of such states.
  • To support timber industry enterprises in 2023, the calculation of payment rates for the lease of forest plots will be based on the actual withdrawal of wood raw materials (this will additionally require a decision of regional authorities).

Proposals to expand the checkpoints across the state border for the export of lumber this year were repeatedly sent to the Government of the Russian Federation by OPORA RUSSIA together with the Russian Forest association.

Olga Kalyuzhnaya, President of the Russian Forest Association: “We consider the work of industry departments, relevant committees of the State Duma and the Federation Council, together with business associations, to be effective, but at present decisions to support the forestry complex should, of course, be made in a balanced way, but more promptly. This will maximize the preservation of jobs and the efficiency of enterprises in the industry.”
