Artificial intelligence will be taught to assess the condition of forests

The Russian government is transferring the first data sets to the regions for training artificial intelligence models. This data will help use AI, including in the field of forestry. Lipetsk Oblast was the first to receive the sets.
Based on multispectral images from drones, AI will determine the terrestrial chlorophyll index, calculate vegetation indices, and identify areas with drying or dead trees. Such information will allow for more accurate assessment of forest conditions and faster response to risks.
A total of 50 sets for machine learning have been prepared within the framework of the federal project "Artificial Intelligence". They are hosted on the platform of the National Data Management System. Access to them can be obtained upon request through an agreement with the Russian Ministry of Digital Development.
This work is being carried out to create new types of data for machine learning, accelerate the development of AI models, and expand their application in various industries.
