The «Russian Forest» Association and the «Curonian Spit» National Park agreed on cooperation

The National Association of Timber Industry «Russian Forest» and the «Curonian Spit» National Park within the framework of the Forest Forum in Syktyvkar signed a cooperation agreement.

The document assumes cooperation of the parties in the promotion and dissemination of the principles of environmentally responsible, socially oriented and economically efficient environmental management, preservation of natural complexes, unique and standard natural areas, and objects of flora and fauna.

The Curonian Spit is located on 6,621 hectares in the border with Lithuania of the Kaliningrad region on a narrow strip of land between the salty Baltic Sea and the freshwater Curonian Lagoon. This is the largest sand spit in the world! Dune landscapes of the spit are a unique object for the development of ecological tourism.

The Curonian Spit is also a rare example of the harmonious coexistence of nature and man. The amazing cultural landscape formed as a result of the interaction of the sea, wind and human activity continues to take shape to this day. Therefore, it is especially important to regulate visits to the territory, the construction of buildings and other economic activities in such a way as not to give rise to irreversible changes that threaten the loss of landscape identity.
