VII Timber Industry Forum of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)

On May 29, the 7th Forestry Forum was held at the Arctic State Agrotechnological University (AGATU) in Yakutia. The Russian Forest Association was represented at the event by its First Vice President Andrey Goncharov.
The forum became one of the largest industry platforms in recent years, bringing together participants from different regions of Russia and foreign countries. The main topics were: implementation of forest restoration measures, combating the consequences of fires and sustainable development of the forestry industry in the context of climate challenges and development of northern territories.
Minister of Industry and Geology of Yakutia Maxim Tereshchenko noted that in 2024, 432 thousand m3 of wood were harvested in the republic, 115 thousand m3 were processed. And this is only the beginning of the realization of the potential of the region, which is among the top five leaders in Russia in terms of forest resources.
The chief forester of the republic Andrey Konoplev outlined the key problems of the industry: a lack of production capacities for deep processing, a deficit of investment projects, and the absence of a complete digital inventory of forests.
The rector of the Volga Region State Technological University Igor Petukhov shared his experience in the field of applying artificial intelligence in forest management and monitoring fire hazard situations in forestry. In addition, the forum participants discussed the introduction of ZKS technologies, automation of seedling planting, and the prospects for forest climate projects.
The II Republican scientific and practical conference "Forest education on permafrost" was also held within the framework of the forum. During the event, reports were read, and an initiative was presented to create a network project for teachers and mentors of school forestries - a platform for exchanging experience and methodological support.
The forum will result in practical recommendations for the development of forestry in the republic and the introduction of modern technologies.
