On May 28-29, the forum "Digital Transformation of the Forestry Complex" was held in Ulyanovsk, which was attended by representatives of the Federal Forestry Agency, regional departments and businesses, as well as a delegation from Belarus. One of the key topics was the modernization of the FGIS LK - a digital platform for the forestry complex.
According to the Federal Forestry Agency, in six months the number of FGIS LK users has grown from 5 to 195 thousand. In 2025, a large-scale verification of the boundaries of forest areas began in the system to eliminate duplicates and inaccuracies. In parallel, document flow is being optimized: redundant reporting forms are being removed, the interface is being simplified, and data duplication is being eliminated.
Particular attention is being paid to integration with other state information systems - for example, with the National Spatial Data System and Rosreestr: at the end of last year, Rosleskhoz completed the migration of data from the State Forest Register (SFR) to FGIS LC. In addition, in 2025, it is planned to introduce the ability to submit a new taxation description of a felling area through the system and publish all layers of the forest management carried out on the map.
The forum has become a platform for exchanging experiences and discussing the real results of digitalization. Thus, the Ulyanovsk Region (one of the first regions to begin implementing FGIS LC) was noted for the effective implementation of the project. In 2024, 1,500 hectares of forest were restored in the region, and the same volumes are planned for this year. Governor Alexey Russkikh emphasized that digitalization helped to create a unified forest registry and strengthen control over timber turnover.
The dialogue also focused on the following topics: interaction with other platforms, seed production, increasing salaries of forest firefighting workers, and the prospects for the new national project "Environmental Well-Being", which continues the federal project "Forest Preservation".
To eliminate the shortcomings of the FGIS LK, Rosleskhoz is improving it daily, releasing updates, expanding the technical support service and reference materials.
