Tomsk Region and Wuhan plan to expand cooperation in the forestry industry

A meeting with a delegation from the Chinese city of Wuhan was held in Tomsk, dedicated to the development of trade and economic ties, including in the forestry industry. Joint projects, investment initiatives and opportunities for cooperation were discussed.
Deputy Governor of the Tomsk Region Vasily Potemkin invited Chinese partners to participate in regional projects in the field of electronics, chemical industry and wood processing, noting that China remains one of the key foreign economic partners of the region.
According to Vice Governor Mikhail Ratner, in 2024, China accounted for 37% of the foreign trade turnover of the Tomsk Region. 16% of exports were products of the forestry complex, and more than 2,000 students from China study at universities in the region. He also stressed the importance of attracting investors to the Asinovsky forestry park and compliance with environmental standards, including mandatory forest restoration.
The Chinese side announced an initiative to open an office for the development of economic ties between Wuhan and the Tomsk region - based on the forestry park. A proposal was also made to develop joint projects in the field of electronics and unmanned technologies.
Head of the Department of Investment and Industrial Policy Georgy Borodulin presented the industrial potential of the region and invited Chinese companies to join the emerging cluster "Forest, Wood Processing and Forest Chemistry".
Earlier, B2B meetings were held in Moscow with the participation of a delegation from Wuhan, the key topic of which was the development of Russian-Chinese cooperation. The city of Wuhan - one of the largest industrial centers of China, and its active participation in dialogue with Russian regions underlines the high interest in joint work in the forestry and related industries.
