CLT construction opens up new opportunities for development in the North
Industrial timber construction technology based on CLT opens up new opportunities for the development of the Arctic and northern Russia. As Kirill Konov, Commercial Director of CLT Technology at BN Group, noted, construction using prefab panels enables a high level of industrialization and allows for the rapid replication of standard projects—from housing to social and commercial facilities.
One of the first large-scale examples of CLT use in Russia was a complex of dormitories and urban villas in Sarov. Built for a branch of Moscow State University and the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Experimental Physics, it became a model of environmentally friendly and modern housing for students and faculty, and demonstrated the technology's potential for northern and scientific-industrial regions.
Today, CLT is actively used in other projects—for example, in the construction of a dormitory complex in Klin (Moscow Region) for the staff of the Cosmos Collection Izumrudny Les 5★ hotel. The materials for this project are supplied by Sokolsky DOK.
According to estimates by BN Group, a specialist in timber construction using CLT and glued laminated timber, the Russian CLT market could grow by 20% of its current volume by 2030. This growth is driven by increased investment in residential, commercial, and social construction, where environmentally friendly and energy-efficient materials are in demand.
CLT can become the foundation of urban infrastructure in northern regions—from residential areas to tourist clusters. Rapidly erectable and permanent buildings provide the foundation for sustainable development in regions with harsh climates.
