At the end of the year, Rosleskhoz traditionally sums up the results, assessing the achievements and changes in the forestry industry. 2024 was another important stage on the path to the conservation and rational use of the country's forest resources.
Forest restoration: stable growth
In 2024, the area of forest restoration in Russia amounted to more than 1.4 million hectares. For the fourth year in a row, this figure exceeds the area of cut down and dead forests.
The leaders in forest restoration:
- Sakha Republic (Yakutia) - 203.6 thousand hectares;
- Irkutsk Region - 181.8 thousand hectares;
- Krasnoyarsk Territory - 160.4 thousand hectares;
- Vologda region - 89.9 thousand hectares;
- Arkhangelsk region - 76.7 thousand hectares.
The "Garden of Memory" and "Save the Forest" campaigns combined the efforts of authorities, volunteers and society, resulting in the planting of 100 million trees.
Forest industry complex: confident development
In 2024, the volume of timber harvesting exceeded 195 million m³. Also, last year, 14 new investment projects were approved for the creation and modernization of timber processing facilities. For their implementation, sites with an annual harvesting volume of 15.1 million m³ will be allocated. timber.
The Northwestern and Siberian Federal Districts remain leaders in the number of priority investment projects: 15 projects are being implemented in the Northwestern Federal District, 26 in the Siberian Federal District.
Digitalization of the forestry industry
Since 2024, the FGIS LK has been operating throughout the country. The system automates the accounting of forest data, which simplifies processes for both forest users and government agencies.
Also in 2024, 8.4 million ESDs were issued for the transportation of timber with a total volume of 408 million m³. Since 2025, these documents have been generated on the FGIS LK digital platform.
Regions — The leaders in terms of timber transportation volumes were: Irkutsk Oblast, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Arkhangelsk and Vologda Oblasts, and the Komi Republic.
Electronic services
Demand for forest services increased by 8.4% in 2024. More than 1.3 million services were provided electronically, which significantly simplifies interaction with the system. The most popular service last year was the receipt of forest declarations and reports, which was provided 915 thousand times.
