SPIEF-2025: New Agreements in the Field of Forest Climate Projects

The 28th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2025) is taking place from June 18 to 21, a traditional platform for strategic dialogue and signing key agreements. Sustainable development remains one of the forum's priorities, and this year two agreements on forest climate projects were signed within its framework.
A new forest climate project in the Irkutsk region
A trilateral agreement on the preparation of a forest climate project was signed by the Federal Forestry Agency, the Government of the Irkutsk region and En+ Group. The document provides for the creation of a video surveillance system for the prompt detection of forest fires and minimization of their consequences.
The project is aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing the environmental safety of the region. Under the agreement, the parties intend to develop a network of video cameras, exchange information, and participate in the formation of state policy in the field of forestry.
Igor Kobzev, Governor of the Irkutsk Region: “Over the past few years, the Irkutsk region has demonstrated a tendency to reduce all indicators of forest fires: quantity, area, damage. This can be achieved through systematic work, including early detection of fires. Tracking outbreaks with the help of video cameras is one of the most promising areas. Under the agreement, we intend to actively develop the network of cameras available in the Irkutsk region”.
Extension of the project in the Krasnoyarsk region
Rosleskhoz and RUSAL signed an agreement to continue the implementation of the forest climate project in the Krasnoyarsk region until 2033. Since its launch in 2019, the project has released more than 1.3 million carbon units, prevented dozens of forest fires, and strengthened regional firefighting infrastructure.
Ivan Sovetnikov, Head of Rosleskhoz: "Forest climate projects play an important role in ensuring the environmental well-being of not only our country, but the entire world. The first agreement between Rosleskhoz, RUSAL, and the Government of Krasnoyarsk Krai was signed in 2019. Today, an agreement was signed for the period up to 2033. This continued cooperation is a good example for the entire market and allows not only to increase the climate resilience of forests, but also opens up new prospects for the development of environmentally responsible business in Russia.".
In addition, the participants agreed to continue work in the Nizhne-Yenisei forestry: support for forest fire brigades, supply of equipment and aviation equipment, as well as joint monitoring of forest areas with an area of more than 500 thousand hectares.
