Forestry professions: which universities train specialists for the industry

The forestry sector is in dire need of professionals, and regional universities continue to actively form a personnel base. In the first part of our material, we already talked about specialized educational institutions, and today - three more universities that train specialists for the forestry industry.

Arctic GATU

The largest forest and land resources are concentrated in Yakutia, so the annual demand for specialists exceeds 7,000 people. For this purpose, the Faculty of Forestry Complex and Land Management was created at AGATU in 2018. It trains forestry engineers, land management engineers, qualified workers in landscape design and improvement. The priority is - practice-oriented training, development of additional professional education, advanced training, cooperation with other universities of the republic and the country.

Forest Institute of the Karelian Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences

This is the largest scientific center for the study of taiga ecosystems in the northwest of Russia. It unites six structural divisions, a network of support points and field laboratories.

The institute is engaged in fundamental and applied research, including the reproduction of forest resources, protection of the gene pool, development of standards and GIS monitoring. Branches of the departments of PetrSU (forestry; agronomy and land management) operate on the basis of the institute, which provide students with annual practice and involve them in research activities.

USFTU

Since 1930, the university has trained more than 55,000 specialists. Today it is one of the largest specialized universities in the country with an educational and experimental forestry enterprise on 30 thousand hectares. The main areas are forestry, land management, ecology, wood processing technologies. Students have access to social support, extracurricular programs, a career center, as well as a developed infrastructure.
