Results of the St. Petersburg International Forestry Forum
The St. Petersburg International Forestry Forum took place in St. Petersburg from September 30 to October 1. More than 300 participants discussed key industry development issues: forest management, digitalization, forestry, and new processing technologies.
State Forest Management
Experts discussed the transformation of forest planning, increasing labor productivity, and improving state oversight. Particular attention was paid to the economics of management and adaptive pricing of timber.
The discussion focused on transparency, efficiency, and finding a balance between the interests of the state and business. Practical mechanisms for increasing the profitability and sustainability of forestry were proposed.
Digitalization of the Forestry Complex
The section showcased a wide range of new solutions: from drones and laser scanning to 3D forest models and AI scanners with high measurement accuracy. Examples of technology implementation at enterprises, as well as developments for wood quality control, were presented.
Participants noted that digitalization is key to industry transparency and error reduction, but updated standards and specialist training are required for its effective implementation.
Forestry
Key topics: thinning in young stands, quality of planting material, and voluntary certification. Speakers emphasized that investments in nurseries and standards will determine the future of the industry.
The climate agenda took a special place: the role of forests in the carbon balance and the importance of forest climate projects were discussed. Participants agreed that forestry today is This isn't just about timber harvesting, but also about sustainable development of territories.
Forest Industry Equipment
Experts presented solutions for import substitution, increased efficiency, and production modernization. New timber scanning systems, localized production, and the development of professional logging equipment were highlighted.
