State forestry agencies prepare plans to develop timber processing

Plans for the development of timber processing have been approved for state logging agencies in 12 regions of Russia. Another seven entities are in the process of developing such documents. This is a step towards increasing the added value of products sold at organized auctions.

We remind you that since 2022, agencies are required to sell timber harvested as part of forestry activities exclusively through exchange platforms. And since last year, administrative liability has been provided for transactions outside organized auctions. The Federal Forestry Agency has a working group on this area, which also includes representatives of the St. Petersburg Exchange, the Eastern Exchange, and the Central Trading System Exchange.

Alexander Panfilov, Deputy Head of the Federal Forestry Agency: “Logging agencies are trying to sell standing timber. Our task is to stimulate them to first process the timber and then enter the auctions with sawn timber. This will increase the cost of products and the income of institutions, which can be used, for example, to increase salaries.".

According to the results of the first quarter of 2025, 1.7 million m3 of timber were sold through exchanges - 98.7% of the planned volume. The leaders are Krasnoyarsk Krai, Vologda and Tver regions, Tatarstan and Udmurtia: these regions account for 75% of all sales.
