It is proposed to scale up the digital development of the PCBC for forest taxation throughout the country

Perm Pulp and Paper Mill is preparing to roll out the LesProfi technology for digital forest inventory. The system combines drones and laser scanning (LiDAR), which allows creating a digital twin of the forest with an accuracy of up to 95%. It records the coordinates, height, diameter and species of each tree, as well as the timber stock.

One flight covers up to 250 hectares, per day - up to 1.5 thousand hectares, which allows inspecting up to 20 cutting areas per shift. At the same time, the data turns out to be more accurate than traditional inventory: three years of experience using LiDAR has shown that the actual timber stock is 10-21% higher than previous calculations.

Today, LesProfi is used on 80% of the enterprise's plots. In the near future, comparative tests with standard methods will be conducted, based on the results of which an economic justification for large-scale implementation of the technology will be prepared.

In the future, LesProfi may become the first example of using a digital twin of a forest at the federal level and play an important role in expanding forest management work in Russia.

Among the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin following a meeting on the situation in the forestry complex were increasing the volume of forest management work, preparing proposals for the use of computer vision, AI, unmanned aerial systems and lidars in forest management.
